Well, it’s the end of another month. For us, that means ANOTHER VIDEO! This one was nothing if not a labour of love for the crew. We shot the vast majority of it before Dorothy returned to college last fall and sat on it until now. With Lauren increasingly difficult to get ahold of and coming to the realization that people are probably getting somewhat sick of the twins and myself, I decided it was time to bring in some new talent. This month’s sketch features our friend, Casey Head. As it happens, she is also great at playing crazy people and fits right into our group.

I get a lot of my material both for films and for cartoons from Twitter. This sketch was actually born out of a tweet-discussion that Dorothy and I had last summer about things from childhood that somehow got lost in the shuffle of growing up. Her favourite was the hula hoop. While I’ve never been at all good with one of the confounded things it was clear to me that the ability to hula hoop for an extended period of time was a talent that Dorothy had and was proud of. I immediately IM’d Chris and once again, he turned the mundane into comedy gold.

Getting the voice over to match was also tricky. Originally, Chris did a great sort of Billy Mays style loud and proud voice over that, I felt, wasn’t really in keeping with the spirit of an infomercial that is exclusively designed to troll the viewing audience. Instead, we had him re-do the voice over in post through our ProTools mixer and make it a bit more creepy-van-guy sounding. I think it gets the point across. Paul’s bit, too, was a last minute addition that came to fruition after I found a really neat setting on our camera that allows me to get good footage of computer screens (sadly at the expense of our lighting but in this case, it works).
